Doctor Who Theme Music – 40th. anniversary theme
Description:
This video is pretty cheesy – but it brings together a variety of versions of the classic Doctor Who theme.
Call it a guilty pleasure – but it’s fun to hear the different ways it’s been updated over the years.
It’s hard to beat the original, though!
For a little historical perspective – here’s the original 1963 version, composed by Ron Grainer and realized by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop:

No retrospective of Doctor Who music would be complete without listening to DJ Deedle’s podcast episode, “Travel By Tardis”:

Some of it’s silly, but I enjoyed it tremendously.
Mute Records has released to fantastic compilations of Doctor Who music, including not only the various versions of the themes but also incidental music composed for the show.
Unfortunately, Mute Records are now owned by EMI, who are apparently dead set on running it into the ground (according to comments from Alan Wilder). Pity… they were the record company I most admired in the whole world.
Oops… that should read “TWO fantastic compilations”, not “to”…
And for no particular reason, let’s all shout Daniel Miller’s name really loud…
