Steven Ness is working on a version of Terry Riley‘s minimalist classic In C, using Max For Live and Ableton Live 8.
In C consists of 53 musical phrases, lasting from half a beat to 32 beats that should be played in order, but can be repeated any number of times.
In this video demo, Ness explains how he’s using Max For Live to recreate the logic of In C using the capabilities of Max For Live.
Best quote: “Oh my god! Max For Live Is Going To Blow Your Mind!”
I tried doing this using follow actions in Live, and was frustrated with the lack of control. I was wishing that I had started it up in Max, but now Max for Live is perfect for it!

What about the beautiful young girl called for in the original score?
Hello Steven,
Even if that it’s from 2009
I’m really impressed about your fantastic ‘tech’ view about IN C
I’m Cesare from a band called ‘The Young Gods’ see http://www.younggods.com if you have time.
I will interpreted IN C with an ‘military’ harmony (yes!) and I’m really interrested to try and apply your view on such event. Is there feasible to share your project with the original Ableton pack.
I fully understand that it’s your intellectual property, and understand if you do not want to share such huge job!
I’m not sure to use it , but your work inspired me.
Please let me know if you can share it ?
Regard, Cesare
Hi Cesare PIzzi,
Definitely! Let me try to dig that up.
Steven.
Nick,
I’m so glad! I would love to hear or see anything that came out of this.
Steven
