Psychic Modulation’s Metatron is a free 2-oscillator “analog” synth with an arpeggiator that works alongside a gated modulation sequencer for creating unique rythmic patterns and sounds.
The oscillator section uses waveforms that double up to create a phasing effect similar to pulse width, but for each waveform. This along with a powefull unison detune section and ring modulator give Metatron a rich, fat sound.
Features:
- 2 phase oscillators
- Unison detune
- Oscillator pitch drifting
- Ring modulation
- Graphical envelopes
- Arpeggiator section
- Sequencer section
- 3 LFOs
- Dual stereo delay
- Assignable modwheel and pitchwheel
- 64 presets

Uurk, uurk, newbie alert! (Me.)
Okay, so I'd like to play with all these software synthesizers on my laptop – USB Midi keyboard in If keyboards are supported, not essential, sound out. BUT they are all VST plugins. I don't record on a PC, preferring a dedicated hard disk recorder. I don't have ANY software that supports / uses VST plugins.
Can someone advise me on a Vista-compatible app that will, simply and reliably, turn these VST plugins into working synthesizers? Minimum of complexity, moderate cost and good reliability are all I desire.
Anyone help this hardware dinosaur?

I would suggest using Reaper as a host for your VSTs. It's a little bit more robust than what you need, (it is a full fledged DAW) but it would do the trick. You can try it out for free for 30 days and then buy it if it works for you… its only $60…
Its worth a shot… here's the URL
