This part of a series of videos documenting the restoration of a Yamaha CS-80 analog monster synth.
via gavincurtis:
Beginning of a series of videos showing the ground up restoration of my ailing CS-80.
Working CS-80’s are playing music on borrowed time as their 70’s era MOS, armaddas of deteriorating digital IC’s and leaky electrolytic capacitors take their toll on these grand machines.
This video series will show how to keep CS-80’s playing well into the next generation of musicians as each circuit board is restored and recalibrated. It will be a long journey starting here with the power supply.
CS-80 restoration parts used in these videos will be available as kits soon. Please come back for details and updates as this project continues.
How difficult is it for Yamaha to make a new, modern version of the CS80 with all the bells and whistles that are possible with today's digital techology. Come on Yamaha! Korg made the Radias. Why don't you make a AN2x, CS8x, CS8000 or something?…..

It would be a great challenge for a company to take on.
While there are lots of great synths nowadays, few that come anywhere close to being as expressively playable as the CS-80.
