If this had been released on any other platform instead of iPad people would say it was a stupid joke. In fact they wouldn't even say that because it would not even be considered worthy of anyone's attention.
That's pretty harsh. It's only a dollar, what do you want?

I could link you to literally dozens of TOTALLY FREE synths that are heaps better than this one, many of which are light enough on CPU to run on a netbook.
Oh and they let you edit sounds… and they'll take MIDI In from a plethora of 3rd party interfaces… and they'll integrate with just about any DAW you can think of…. and you can map any of their parameters onto hardware controllers….and you can save and share presets in a common file format…. and blah blah blah, the list goes on and on of features that any normal person would consider the minimum standard for any software instrument.
Looking at this thing, and the way you talk about it, it's like the lat 20 years in soft-synths just didn't happen.
Also, a synth that doesn't let you save your compositions is worthless as a tool to jot down musical ideas on the move. Humming into the audio note-taker on any phone is a better option.
This is a toy and nothing more, which is fine, but it's not worthy of being called news on Synthtopia.
Hmmm, a 59p app that gives you a 2-octave synth on the move? Less of a stupid joke, more of a good way to write little ideas on the move. What more can you expect from such a cheap app? And with iPhone O.S 4's multi-tasking, you could run the iElectribe, get a beat going, then open up your Synth, and away you go.

Nifty Application!
Played with it briefly – pretty excellent little keyboard. Has 48 presets PLUS a sampler mode. The mod wheel on the iPad is big enough to feel pretty natural. Best dollar I spent today.

You seem to have missed the point again. This is a cute little application. I'm sure there are other iPad synths (and of course netbook-friendly soft-synths) with more features, but for 99c/59p it's not really something I'd consider worthy of complaining about.
Perhaps a TUAW-esque, 'No-iPad' channel is needed here at Synthtopia.

If Im not mistaken theres a video on the news page of the Brett Domino Trio, proving toys are just as useful as other more feature-filled instruments.
There are plenty of situations where a little synth like this could come in handy. Sure, it might not do what YOU want it to, but I bet there are plenty of people who could find a use for this.
Sounds like youve got a netbook anyway – so whats the problem. Use one of those soft-synths and quit bitching. It's obviously not aimed at you, but its still news.
