Saturday Synth Porn: Nice shot of the Metasonix r54 Supermodule Vacuum Tube Oscillator & Filter, a vacuum tube based analog synth module in Eurorack format.
Designer Eric Barbour calls the Metasonix r54 “the most radical, revolutionary module we’ve ever made.”
He goes on to say that “There has never been an electronic-music product like this before.”
And, “Even the oddest things that Buchla And Associates or Serge Modular ever made are prosaic and dull compared to the R-54.”
See the Metasonix site for details and audio demos.

When looking at the use of tubes like that I always have to laugh. I (somewhat) lived the time where tubes were banned because really; it was time to get with the recent times. And now many people resort to this stuff again (usually to make it look more interesting and earn even more money) and sometimes I just can't help wonder why anyone would want such a device.
Tubes are nice, but if you're unlucky will only live for so long..

Metasonix specializes in using old technology in new ways – putting tubes in places where they were never supposed to go.
Definitely not for everybody – but not another Moog clone soft synth, either……
