This vintage video features Bob Moog & Wendy Carlos discussing Switched On Bach, synthesis and the development of the Moog synthesizer.
If anyone has any information on the background of this video, leave a comment.
Watch for some predictions by Moog and Carlos on the ‘future’ of synthesis!
Back in the mid 70's Dad brought home the "switched on" records. I was absolutely blown away as a youngster. I've been into electronic music ever since both listening and producing.
5:58– To think that we were distracted from true synthesis by that cheap and sleazy siren called "sampling"! At least the quick-to-buy masses bankrolled innovation and we're getting back to our true modular roots, or was the message that our future is in software? This video clip is a gem!
Switched On Bach was probably the most influential electronic music album of all time.
And it's been yanked off of Vimeo after being on there for three months.
Sorry guys. If anyone knows of another source for this, put a link in the comments.
The original LP still knocks me out – not least the cover picture.
WIsh I could have seen that. Makes you think if it isn't time to start making backups of interesting videos found on the web given the sometimes highly volatile nature of these things? Like in the times where precious finds on the Web or Internet at large were carefully archived by people who had some combination of the time/money/patience to download any significant bits with modems. Broadband has ruined everything. 😉
video has disappeared 🙁
