Sunday Synth Jam: Electronic musicians sometimes take themselves a little to serious.
This is not the case with Noah Vawter and Kelly Snook, who, here, breath life into a classic Finnish folk song, while Ryan O’Toole does a leek spin.
The duo play a diy instrument called the “electric eel“, which “synthesizes a variety of important electronic sounds when the slider is moved left and right.”
Does your synth jam video have a leek spinner in it?
Perhaps it should.
It should be noted, Noah Vawter makes instruments which are entirely powered by you using them, like acoustic instruments. So that slider moving back and forth not only triggers the sounds, but also generates the power to run the instrument and the speakers built into it.
This makes it possible to play electronic music sitting around the campfire while in the woods, or where ever you want.
WOW! what an honor to be on Synthtopia! For those into synthesis, I made a video last week which shows some of the various synthesizer algorithms I'm working on for this thing, too! [youtube 0k20QUaTlLY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k20QUaTlLY youtube] It's not limited to digital synthesis, but for now, I'm trying to get as many basic types of synthesis in it as I can, so I'm using an Atmel Atmega32 development board for the synthesis. I really want to get sampling to work!!! Also, I'm teaching three workshops on building these in the next year! Please visit my wiki for more infos 🙂

Like how it looks like you're having a lot of fun and how you're playing recognizable music with these strange instruments.
Seems like most people make unique, one-of-a-kind instruments and then poop out the same old random noise wankery on them.
