Saturday Synth Porn: This video, via DigitaleAnalogue, offers a sonic tour of the deep and delicious Electrocomp 500 (EML 500) – a 70’s dual-oscillator monophonic synthesizer.
Features of the EML 500 include:
- 3 1/2 octave keyboard
- Dual VCO’s
- Noise generator
- Multimode VCF (low-pass, band-pass, high-pass)
- Sample & hold
- Ring modulation
- LFO
- CV/Gate control
All that, plus awesome seventies-tastic styling, equals one funky synth.
Is the EML 500 an underrated classic? Check it out and leave a comment with your thoughts!
Oh man..I was freaking out…his right hand was triggering low notes, and his left hand was triggering high notes…I was like " WTF, is this keyboard backwards ? " then I noticed the
letters near the top of the synth and realized it was backwards…so this was recorded
with the camera aimed at a mirror.
Yes – you need to watch this reflected through a mirror…..
All my synths sound better in reverse too
For some reason, I'm looking at this and thinking of Bing Crosby singing 'I'm dreaming of a white Christmas'.
hey, I can dig it!
Who cares about the view? the sound is absolutely fantastic anyway.
Yeah, I want to hear more annoying prog riffs 😉
