UVI has introduced UVI Grand Piano, a new virtual piano for the Mac that was released today in the new Mac App Store.

  • Steinway Grand Piano Model D.
  • ecorded in a world class studio.
  • Deeply multi-sampled (sustain, release, pedal noise…)
  • Expertly edited and scripted using the latest UVI Engine.
  • Low Memory usage thanks to lossless realtime decoding: only 400 MB for a 3 GB source.
  • Custom velocity curves to fit your playing style.
  • Integrated convolution reverb.
  • CPU efficient.
  • Ultra low latency.
  • Compatible with built-in or third party sound cards.
  • Compatible with all USB/MIDI keyboards and controllers.

With UVI Grand Piano, it seems that UVI is testing the waters of the Mac App Store to see if there’s a market for “prosumer” virtual instruments.

It’s currently priced at $29.99.

As the video demonstrates, it’s a great sounding virtual instrument. But it’s designed to run standalone, not to work with digital audio workstations.

Think there’s a market for virtual instruments like this?

  1. I find it very neat how that MacApp store operates. I just clicked on the Soundcloud app and the little logo literally jumped off the app screen and onto my dock! Just a little trick, I guess, but so elegantly done and with a sense of play. It is these tiny but very clever details that make for a brightening day… 🙂
