The American composer and teacher Milton Babbitt died Saturday, Jan. 29 at age 94.
For years, New York-based journalist and filmmaker Robert Hilferty worked on a documentary about Babbitt. Hilferty left the film unfinished when he died in 2009.
Composer and former Babbitt student Laura Karpman has now completed Hilferty’s film, Portrait Of A Serial Composer, embedded below:
In addition to offering a portrait of Babbitt, the documentary features some great historical footage about the RCA Mark II Synthesizer and Babbitt’s thoughts on it.
The Milton Babbitt documentary has been premiered by NPR Music.

Haha, around 43 mins- "would you tell them we're shooting a sequel to dumb and dumber?"
