The Casio VL-1 is a low cost monophonic keyboard from the year 1981. The Casio VL-1 offers some rhythm patterns, preset sounds and basic synthesis. You can change waveforms, LFO speed and envelopes.
While the editing procedure is little kludgy, programming custom sounds and adding a little reverb or effects can take the VL-1 synth into interesting new territory, as demonstrated in the video.

Ah, the VL-Tone is the first synthesizer I ever programmed!!
I think my friend convinced his parents to get it for him because it was also a calculator so he could “use it for school work.” 😉
Oh my goodness … my first thought was there’s something new from Teenage Engineering. Well, it really could …
Yes! I have one of these that I’ve never really used. No idea you could do LFO’s on it.
got one of these for 30 bucks… gonna buy another modded out by scat soon
now we know where the design for the OP-1 came from
I used to have a Casio sk-1 and a Casio sa-21, lol.
Just got one about a year ago on Amazon and this thing sounds so cheesy, but in a good way. It sounds like no other synth, and will never be like any other synth. Thank you Casio for this little synth.
