Free Music Software: Steinberg has revived and rereleased a couple of discontinued software synths:
- Neon — Polyphonic synth featuring two oscillators, ADSR envelopes, an LFO and a resonant filter
- Karlette — Vintage tape delay with four independent delay heads and tempo sync
Both instruments are available in VST 2.4 plug-in format (32- and 64-bit, PC and Mac OS X) and can be downloaded free of charge from the Steinberg website.
Note: As these products are discontinued, their updates are not officially supported.
I remember these two from my Cubase 5 pruchasse a long long time ago.
I love it when Synthtopia.brings back all them long gone goodies to my attention.
RESPECT!
Will they work in Logic?
Logic doesn’t support VST natively.
Wow, I quit Cubase years ago. Logic + Reason + Live = more than enough (/hides iPad under bed.) There is that VST thing though…
But I can’t bring myself to install Reason 6 because of the !@#$#@!$ dongle, so it may be headed for Cubase-land as well unless Propellerheads.se stops the madness…
But cheers to Steinberg for free plugins and also for making Mac software even when Apple is competing with them with Logic!
(And perhaps they’ll start making iPad apps, in which case my bank account might start draining towards Hamburg by way of Cupertino…)
