Behringer has introduced the iAxe – a custom guitar-shaped electronic controller for the iPad.
Is it déjà vu all over again?
A second dock located on the headstock area allows the player to read music or lyrics from an iPod or iPhone while playing.
iAxe ships with a variety of apps, designed for learning how to play the guitar and recording. But it is described by Behringer as an ‘open platform’. Unfortunately, the company has not provided official details on whether that means it works as a standard MIDI controller or not.
“With the iAxe Guitar, I wanted to make a product that introduces everyone to the lifelong pleasure of making music by not only providing instant musical gratification but to also guide and grow the musician’s talent toward becoming a sophisticated guitar player,” said CEO Uli Behringer.
“The iAxe Guitar uses the power of a tablet computer and the creativity of our partner developers to become a truly open platform for musical expression.”
Pricing and availability are to be announced.
This is such a stupid gimmick. Only people too lazy to actually play a real guitar would ever buy this junk.
Is it April 1?
Will people please quit making ridiculous iOS device docking stations? NAMM this year has been absolutely bloated with them. Considering how Apple often changes outer hardware specs, it just doesn’t seem like a smart investment. I say this as a happy iPad/iPhone user: I don’t want to plug into this crap.
Hahahahahahah! Very funny, Mr. Behringer.
Though even if this were for real it would be nothing compared to the Rock Ock 8-neck guitar.
iHorrible.
I’m so fed up with all that iTrash stuff and, reading lots of music related blogs and forums, I know that I’m not the only one. Apple is really clever. They don’t have to spend a single cent for this kind of virulent marketing since all those bloggers are doing this job for them. But really, I can’t stand it anymore. It’s not this admittedly stupid “guitar”, it’s the fact that I can’t avoid to see a bunch of iTrash stuff whenever wherever I am. Brainwash every day.
I KNOW, RIGHT? I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP LIKING THINGS I DON’T LIKE!
You just don’t understand what I’m talking about. Try again!
let me try … you want an ipad but dont have one? why else would you get mad about this stuff ? ^^
Behringer’s legendary audio and build quality combined with a physical form factor that nobody in their right mind would be interested in? Sign me up!
If you can afford all the bits that go together to make this monstrosity, you can probably afford a real guitar instead!
Way beyond ugly!
Two words – “Guitar Hero”.
