Fingerlab has announced a major update to its DM1 iPad drum machine:
DM1 now comes with 2 new super cool tools “The Randomizer” and “The Automation” for instant and fun beat making. Patterns are now also expandable to 32 Steps for extra creativity. We have added 24 new drum kits. As well as AudioCopy, WIST synchronisation between two iPads, MIDI In and more cool features. Yes, it is a big update!
Here’s what’s new in DM1 v2.0:
- “The Randomizer” – a new exciting tool to unleash the creative potential of the Mixer step by step. Just press ‘Go” and have fun!
- “The Automation Panel” for a precise and intuitive control of any Mixer parameter over time. Powerful and easy.
- 16 or 32 Steps per patterns. Even more complex beats.
- 24 New Drum Kits for a total of 64 Drum Kits.
- WIST synchronisation technology by Korg for syncing 2 iPads together.
- Reversed sounds. Long-Tap the Play button on any track of the Mixer to reverse the sound.
- AudioCopy on exporting
- Colored Song Patterns
- New help screens with tips & tricks
Releasing timing is to be announced, this isn’t in the App Store yet.
Check it out, though, and let us know what you think of the DM1 update!
Looks like it hits all the updates I wanted! This is by far my favorite UI of any iOS beat box, and it will be great to have the new features.
MIDI in is nice, but it would be really cool if it had MIDI out too.
Gonna be sick!
This is my favorite drum machine for just getting things done. I’m really excited about these updates; particularly, the 32 steps/pattern. The reverse sound and automation also sounds intriguing.
To bad they didn’t add sample import.
I really like this drum machine. I find working with it very pleasant and efficient. I have come up with so many fascinating grooves.
When I think about features I might like, I also think about how I wouldn’t want it to get too much more complicated. For example, I’d like to be able to control the amount of accent for each sound (i.e., how much the accent is louder than a regular hit); but that might adds a knob. One of my minor gripes had to do with the way the decay of sounds was handled when changing the length of sounds. I’m glad they’ve added new drum sets. The ones on there are good and interesting, but there’s definitely room for more!
I think WIST works really well with the apps I’ve tried, will be a great addition to DM1. I wish KORG would release some kind of simple WIST VST plugin, so you could slave your iPhone/iPad from Cubase for example. Or am I missing something obvious?
I can’t wait for this update to hit the AppStore! Between DM1, Funkbox and iElectribe, and to a lesser extent Nanostudio and GarageBand, I have some serious fun on my iPad creating drum beats.
So there is no AudioCopy for importing ?
It will be cool to have our own samples trigerred….
Cool update nonetheless…waiting to try it out.
I just updated recently and there were a bunch of new drumsets. I wonder if the 2.0 sounds will be in addition.
Is there a way of using WIST to midi sync between my macbook pro and an iPad?
that was quick, its already showing 2.0 now in the App store.
