Reader James Rosenthal let us know that the studio gear of audio engineer Roger Nichols, an 8-time Grammy Award winner known for his work with Steely Dan, is being auctioned by his estate:
I came across an interesting “estate” sale of the the legendary audio engineer Roger Nichols studio.
Sweetwater is managing the sale of of Nichols studio gear and as I looked through the list there’s a wide variety of terrific audio gear at next to nothing costs.
Nichols (September 22, 1944 – April 9, 2011) worked with Steely Dan, John Denver, the Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Al Di Meola and Mark Knopfler, among others. He also pioneered digital drum replacement technology and was a long-time columnist for EQ magazine.
The auction of Nichols’ gear is being handled by Sweetwater via eBay.
And why is he selling all this?
The gear is being offered for sale by Nichols’ estate. Roger Nichols was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late 2010 and, after a difficult and expensive battle against the cancer, passed away in Spring 2011.
