Propellerhead Figure’s approach to beatmaking has made a splash, but has also left some musicians wanting to bring Figure style beatmaking to their desktop workflows.
In this tutorial, Point Blank instructor Danny J Lewis tries to do just that – creating a rack in Ableton Live that emulates the mechanics behind the way the drum patterns switch in Figure.
This isn’t a recreation of Figure – but demonstrates how you can bring some similar ideas into working in Live.
If you’re interested in this sort of semi-algorithmic approach to beatmaking, check out Julien Bayle’s Protoclidean Sequencer. Bayle’s sequencer explores Euclidean rhythms – an algorithmic approach to distributing beats.
what is tihis ??? no Figure !!! i show in the next days how you emulate a Figure in Ableton !
From the text right on top of this very page : “This isn’t a recreation of Figure – but demonstrates how you can bring some similar ideas into working in Live.”
I was more interested in how to achieve the transposing features of Figure. Good tutorial anyway.
