Here’s another look at the Nu Desine AlphaSphere, from the 2012 Summer NAMM Show.
The AlphaSphere has 48 pressure-sensitive pads in a spherical arrangement. The controller responds to taps, but also to pressure.
The AlphaSphere is available for pre-order for £1000.
My first thought was a pun so low, I couldn’t bear to post it. You’re welcome. If its well-built, we’ll see some people wailing on it in an amusing way pretty soon. I’m curious to hear a few of those moments that establish the instrument in people’s minds.
This guy is clearly really smart and creative. But I think the sphere isn’t a very playable thing. I would love to see him sell a couple different shapes, more in flat or slightly arced shape, using the same triggers. Like something that could sit on the flat part of a standard keyboard, or a desktop. Or better yet, sell them independently with some scaffolding parts so people can build their own arrays.
