Audiobus – What Are You Going To Do With It?

This video captures an informal demonstration, by Sebastian Dittmann, of using the upcoming Audiobus app to route audio between iOS music apps.

In this case, Dittman uses Loopy HD to record and loop audio out of Sunrizer.

If you want to know more about this technology, see our interview with Dittman and beta user Tim Webb, What Is Audiobus & How Will It Change Mobile Music Making?

No release date has been set yet for Audiobus. If you’re waiting for Audiobus to be released, what do you want to do with it?

  1. Oh, I forgot to tell what I want tio do with this. I will hopefully be able to use it av a bridge to tape IOS synths in Auria. Oh how I want to do that 🙂

  2. I am hoping to somehow use it to sample animoog/sunrizer into werkbench. Also, to be able to record any app into garageband would be great.

    1. Ive learned that people who hate iDevices, just havent really used one before. That doesnt include going up to one in the store and just touching it 🙂

  3. I still don’t understand when someone says this. Do you mean on the development end? What am I missing?

With the exception of function (i.e. bridging audio between apps), I don’t see the resemblance and there are plenty of other audio routing soft’s which they could be emulating (sound flower, LineIn, etc.) And the virtual-cabling-as-an-interface is more emulating real-world patch bays than it is emulating jack – though AudioBus seems more like “virtual-piping” which is merely a cosmetic difference I would think.

But also, I don’t know of any other projects at this stage of development for iOS so who could they really be emulating at all?

Am I not seeing this right? Is there a version of Jack I don’t know about? Am I way over-thinking this?

  4. Haha, messed up the timing of his playing a little at the end there and he was probably like “Ugh, I’ve tried to make this video like five times and I keep screwing something up… I’ll just fade the vid out at this part.”

  5. Is the record button set to a MIDI clock? It looks that way because towards the end he taps the button but record doesn’t start until the beginning of the next measure.

    ??

    1. Loopy tries to line up recordings. If you already have a loop recorded on one track, it will try to quantize the record start for subsequent tracks, to that first loop recording.

      1. Ahh, interesting. But the record button is part of the audiobus interface…so is audiobus receiving MIDI from Loopy? I mean, how would it know? I get what it’s doing, just not how it’s doing it.

  6. Please. No more AudioBus news until it is released. It’s got enough pub and it pains me to open the site, home in on “audiobus” and find out that it’s still not released…

  7. Heheh, I can’t believe I’m excited about something that’s basically just ReWire for the iPad.

But I really like my standalone iPad synths like Sunrizer, Animoog, Magellan, Cassini, Addictive Synth, SynthX and even the humble NLog Pro and iSyn Poly. And I keep using FunkBox and GarageBand for quick-and-dirty rhythms for some reason. So… being able to put them all together = awesome!

  8. Now I’m going to curse on this forum =
    IPAD,DUBSTEP,HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE,F*** ANIMOOG,DIGITAL OR ANALOG….
When something starts with an I on this forum everybody’s going crazy like hell 🙂
