This video tutorial takes a look at how to make techno and house rhythms with a classic Roland TR-909 drum machine.
via SynthManiaDotCom:
I bought my 909 in the ’90s when it was at the peak of its popularity in Techno, House and Rave music. This old faithful has been to many raves and house parties back in the day, yet, amazingly, still works and more importantly, grooves like a fox on rollerblades.
Lovely! Check out http://www.Beat707.com for an open-source 909/707/808 style sequencer. 😉 (no sounds, just midi, but still great!)
Is this for real? It’s about 20 years too late and it’s hardly a tutorial, just some guy in a bad checked shirt dicking around with a 909. The rhythms are shit, too.
Haters gonna hate.
Doesn’t get much better than a 909 in my book.
Lol I’m not hating on the 909, just the video in all it’s circlejerkiness.
Just ‘cos one may own a 909… etc… etc…
This is unnecessary. Good 909 beats write themselves!
The open hat and clap sound on the 909 are one of the reasons to get up in the morning.
Knowing that people are paying a lot of cash these days to get one 🙂
If you want you will get these sounds out of any analog synth.
You could also sample this video and chop it 🙂
I don’t have one but I can say that this video sounds better than the tr-909 samples in an roland E-50 I own.
Maybe the tr 909 is compressed or something so that it sounds sharper.
I don’t why, but I never cared much for the 909, but the 808 is the daddy…discus…
I see one now for 1600 euro on secondhand website 🙂
Who are these morons that are paying 2,500 USD for these things? It’s easy as hell to replicate anything this machine does with some samples and even the most rudimentary sequencer- for FREE. I know that it’s fun to use hardware, and Roland-style step sequencing is as gas, but come the F on.
Haha spend $20 on a few apps and get 10 different versions of the 909 & 808
Anyone here interested in swapping their 909 for my 606?
Just asking, would totally go for it :3
