Marc Doty continues his series of in-depth videos looking at the upcoming Moog Sub Phatty synthesizer.
The previous episodes in the series looked at the Sub Phatty’s oscillators and filter. In the next episodes, embedded above and below, Doty looks at the modulation options of the Moog Sub Phatty.
See Doty’s YouTube channel, AutomaticGainsay, for more of his synth videos.
This is really an impressive synth. I’m especially excited about the flexibility of EG routing; with both hard sync and audio range LFOs, I just can’t wait to get my hands on one.
I don’t get why some people dismissed this when it was introduced, or complained about the price. This seems like an excellent synth and a great value. It’s not as cheap as a MiniBrute, but it oozes craftsmanship, which the MiniBrute does not. The best part of it is that you could buy both the Sub Phatty & a MiniBrute for less than you would have paid for most vintage mono synths a year or two ago.
I’ve said this before, but I’ll reiterate. I played with the Sub Phatty, and then shortly thereafter the Minibrute and a few other highly anticipated new sub-$1000 synths, and there was no comparison. I’ve never been a Moog fanboy or anything, but the build quality, sound, and ease of use of the Sub Phatty is pretty much unparalleled. I’m going to do whatever it takes to get one. These videos are really great, BTW.
Hopefully we’ll see a CV version in the future.
