This video, via Ableton, takes a look at Ben Lukas Boysen, aka Hecq and his interest in sound design with usual source material:
We visited Ben in his studio for a fascinating look at how he gathered and transformed the unconventional audio material for his latest endeavour, The Forge – a hugely versatile Pack that’s part of the exclusive sound content in the upcoming Ableton Live 9 Suite.
Watch out for his use of microphones to capture and create unique sounds!
I’m looking for that kind of contact microphones (and their specific preamp) for a while, anyone knows the reference?
I have not tried any of them, but take a look at this shop – handmade hydrophones and contact microphones:
http://hydrophones.blogspot.co.at/
Again, it’s just what I have found after doing some research by myself, but the prices seem far more reasonable than the prices for regular “professional” hydrophones (that go up to 2,000 €).
I do not use Ableton however I was impressed with Hecq dedication and natural curiosity. Great little profile on his work.
i love his output…especially his mellower stuff.

I’d like to know more about tgis sort of mic tecnique and which mics to use. There are thousands of mics and I don’t know where to start!
