Arturia iMini For iPad Demo & Review

Here’s a quick demo and review, via thesoundtestroom, of the new Arturia iMini for iPad.

iMini is based on Arturia Mini V software, originally created in partnership with Dr. Robert Moog, back in 2003. iMini comes with a large collection of preset sounds, created by Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream), Geoff Downes (Asia) and other sound designers.

Arturia iMini is available now for $9.99

  1. just bought it and I was testing out the presets in a hurry to see if it matches the vst version, hell it does! there’s a patch called k_ujiue Fat, and it’s really really fat, something I missed are the modulation options present in the VST version, and audiobus , but its a really good app

  2. Not sure what the issue is in the video with the supposed problem with the iMini being monophonic when used in Tabletop…

The Minimoog is a monophonic synth. Any polyphony that the iMini provides in this emulation is a potentially useful add on in non-Tabletop usage, but, if in Tabletop it’s monophonic, that’s no different than having a Minimoog in terms of emulated functionality.

One thing you *can* do in tabletop is open multiple iMinis at the same time. I found that three plus a beat maker was pushing the CPU to max on an iPad 3, but, fine with 2 iMini’s

So, not really a downside – unless I’m missing something. I did try this and saw no loss. I checked and all the oscillators are still running when under Tabletop just fine (wanted to make sure we weren’t confusing oscillators with polyphony), so, seems like it works “as advertised” to me.

Anyone else see a problem here that I’m missing?

    Kind regards

    Derek.

  3. Thank you for the review. As a favor for future reviews,
would it be possible to not record the keystroke sounds
and also to not cough or clearing the throat every 10 seconds?
Both are really distracting when trying to listen to the instrument.

    1. Does it really matter how people pronounce it?. There are many words that Americans spell differently from the British, but it’s all still English; Wasn’t his surname originally Dutch (certainly European, if not).
