Reader Ron Kurti found himself living next to an awesome synth store, Switched On, and daydreaming about all the fantastic gear:
“I was living next door to a synth store for a few months,” note Kurti. “Every time I walked in there I thought to myself, ‘how amazing would it be if this was my studio?'”
Eventually, he convinced them to let him sneak in at night and this is the result.
All sounds were recorded live at Switched On in Austin, Texas using new & vintage hardware synths & effects. The title of the track, Nerd’s Ascent, comes from the name of a patch on the Eventide Space Reverb.

I’d probably murder for that YC-20.
what would you do for a YC-20D?
That made my day. ^_^
LOL break in and… STEAL THE SOUNDS
That was perfect.
Better a lifetime with just one synth.. than a night with so much equipment (regarding the quality of music too!)
So maybe for you a “mono” synth stands for monogamous!
kidding… i hear ya, tho about sticking with it.
It’s very nice. but it sounds and looks to me more like a full on promo for that store.
True, doubt I’ll be popping in any time soon though..
(I live a few thousand miles away!)
Nice video, gear and tune. Tasty mix of genres.
Trying not to be too jealous – No shops like that within 20 miles of me…..gutted!
Smackin! I would listen to an album of this stuff
That brought a smile to my face. Very nice…and a nice tune.
Listening to it in my good monitor speakers. What a nice mix. Pleasing arc to the whole thing.
This goes up there with the ‘synth babe’ version of Tubular Bells!
I would do murder for a YC-45D.
I am pretty sure that if you sneak in to a synthesizer store at night you will get arrested.
Hope this helps.
I recently just missed a YC-45d for $600. Wasn’t sure it was worth the bones until it was gone in only a few days. Still, I ended up getting a Hammond.
Great work! The music and video go great together.
Awome sound man 🙂
It seems a commercial for the synths shop, and I can’t figure out how he recorded this track with a lot of synthesizers in only one night (I suppose he was jamming all night long, recording, and then he mixed tracks at home…) but it rocks! 🙂 I like the video so much.
That is correct.
Really enjoyed that – thanks !
can anyone please tell me what effects he has on the clarinet to get that sound?!
