This video, via MAKEN0ISE, takes a look at using the Make Noise Rene Cartesian sequencer as a non-linear quantizer.
The Rene is used to quantize external voltages by CV-addressing the X-CV input in Snake mode. Since each location’s value can be set independently, quantization can be as linear or non-linear as you prefer.
See James Cigler’s Rene 101: Charming the Snake for more info about Snake Mode:
For more info on the Rene, see the Make Noise site.
After about 3 minutes it really started to sound like someone playing rather than a machine following rules.
Isn’t the point not the sequence but the ability to do custom quantizing of pitches?
Most modular demos are tedious to me, but this one was great, that’s a super sweet sequencer!
The first commercial module I’ve seen that has inspired me in a long time! Great sounds.
