Sunday Synth Jam: Ambient/space music artist Steve Roach is featured in a new interview at the Tucson Weekly.
Published in conjunction with the interview, this short video captures Roach at work with his Synthesizers.com 5U modular synthesizer, exploring new sounds and sequences at his Sonoran desert studio, the Timeroom.
A lot of people burble along Berlin-style, but Steve has always put a unique spin on it that makes it stand out beautifully. He comes up with counterpoint and melodies that lift it out of the merely-mechanical. He’s a bit like the William Orbit of “Berlin”/ambient, not hugely known across the board, but heads rightfully turn when he appears. If you don’t know of him, buy a couple of Roach CDs/MP3s and be converted. He’s in a great, rarified space, like Kit Watkins and Michael Brook. Recommended.
Agree totally with all Fungo said- Steve Roach is a unique creative spirit:)
