Sunday Synth Jam: This video captures a complete live performance, May 28, 2014, by ambient/space music artist Robert Rich.
Here’s what Rich has to say about the live performance:
My friends at KFJC 89.7 FM Foothill College, in Los Altos CA, invited me to perform live as part of a four-hour special, featuring my music. Because this station is special to me (it’s where I performed my first live event ever, in 1980) and because they celebrate experimental music, I wanted to play an improvised concert as much, as possible.
Some of this gear appears for the first time in my live rig. This means that I make mistakes, and sometimes the notes aren’t perfect. I like this because it’s real, it’s what I do. You can see a bit of my process, warts and all.
Some of the ideas here might surface on an upcoming album that I plan to call “Cosmology.”

Great set and nice to be able to look over his shoulder and see what he’s doing.
I listened about half way through and i have to say i am impressed at the continuous morphing atmosphere i am getting from the music, i definitely had imagery in my head as i was listening. great textures and sounds here.
This is some of the best I have ever heard from this genre. It is obvious Robert Rich knows synthesis very well. Thanks for the show.
Sad to see that he isn’t touring with the MOTM system anymore, but his music sound good as ever.
If you ever have a chance to see Robert Rich live, do it. He’s not a ‘showy’ performer, but has immense talent as a synthesist and a unique vision as an artist.
