This series of videos, by Faxi Nadu, offers a modular synthesizer ‘crash course’.
Nadu uses the Sonic Core Scope DSP platform, but most of the concepts apply to modular synthesis in general. Topics covered include building a 1-oscillator synth, a 3-oscillator synthesizer, noise, sync & chaos, waveshaping and more.
whoa!
Was that 44mn of talking with not a single synth sound?!
That particular one was an introductory vid after all…
thanks for sharing synthtopia 🙂
– that one posted is an introduction, this is a 10 hour course, you can always skip it.
– about the sound quality, for this teamviewer was used and that really hurt the recording, that is why the voice is at times a bit grainy.
– though you commented on the introduction, the rest of the videos indeed do not have many sound examples. i think that is not the point. the point is modular synthesis ideas, and they will sound different on whatever platfrom you use and whatever settings you used. this is to get you going, and if you do have a scope system, just follow the examples and you will hear the sound on your own system for yourself 🙂
I like how people start rediscovering modulars, be it virtual or otherwise. With all the renewed attention on new virtual modular products, there is a system that I dont see it mentioned often within this context. Its Propellerheads Reason. The availability of usefull patches of all kinds of modular setups inside reason is staggering. If you want to learn modular by example, ita a great start..
