This video, by JK Swopes of Sounds And Gear, takes a look at the new IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2.
The IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2 is a universal mobile MIDI interface that works with iOS, Mac, and PC devices. It’s also the first mobile MIDI interface compatible with Apple’s Lightning connector.
“I’ve been using the original for years and love it,” notes Swopes. “his one keeps it simple to use but improves the form factor and allows the use of standard MIDI cables so you can connect it to anything without the use of any proprietary cables.”
You can get more info on the iRig MIDI 2 at the IK site.
If you’ve used the IK iRIg MIDI 2, let us know what you think of it!
Smart, now I just need an iPhone 6 to go with it.
No more charging the iOS device during use? What kind of “update” or “improvement” is that? This was the one compelling feature of irig. Rubbish.
IK posted they might have some solution to the lack of charging with this. In a few months or next year! Which could only be some other piece of hardware to use with it….
I’m thinking if I were to go mobile I’m using a controller that uses USB over the CCK like the MPKmini. Now if I’m using something that only uses big ass MIDI cables I’m probably near a wall outlet. Not always the case but I’m coming up with nothing on use cases in this regard. Looks like a solution in search of a problem.
I’d take my money and buy an iConnectMIDI2+ for the same amount but does way, way more for the money and does so straight out of the box.
As far as I can tell, the iRig MIDI 2 drains your battery while you play, and there’s no way of charging your iOS device, which sucks and is a major step down from the iRig MIDI 1.
Why do device manufacturers think that power inputs are unnecessary, or that we will never want to charge our devices while we are playing?
The iRig MIDI 1 is a brilliant device because it features a power input, which you can optionally plug in to *charge your iOS device while you play*. Works fine with Apple’s adapter, but it would have been nice to have a native Lightning version of the iRig MIDI 1.
Considering this is the same price as an iConnectMIDI2+, it doesn’t seem like a good value.
There is false advertising with this!
“Introducing iRig MIDI 2, the first Lightning/USB compatible mobile MIDI interface that works with all generations of iOS devices… ”
“Universal MIDI interface for Lightning iOS devices as well as all prior generations of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch… ”
Is not truse because the basic package out of the box cannot work with all generations of iOS devices / “all prior generations of iPhone, iPad… “.
An extra “30-pin to Mini-DIN cable” is required, which adds more ~30% of the base price to make the above claims true !!!
iRig should be sued.
