In this video, composer and music producer Mike Verta shares his thoughts on the TEControl USB MIDI Breath Controller.
The MIDI Breath Controller transforms the breath pressure signal to MIDI CC messages that let you add realistic expression to performances. This is useful for live performance with synthesizers and DAWs, giving you control of volume, expression and other parameters of soft synths and sample libraries.

It’s a little counter-intuitive (or perhaps backwards) to use the breath control for vibrato and the wheel for expression/dynamics. To me it seems to defeat the purpose– but it really doesn’t matter. The point is that you condition yourself to work with several controls and connect with the sound.
I have a TEControl and use it with a Reaktor ensemble called Silverwood. It is really satisfying.
Adding breath control seems to instantly make brass and wind virtual instruments sound way more realistic. There was a bow controller on here recently, and it does the same thing for string instruments.
Excellent review & demo!
if you smoke, don’t bother with this, it’ll be much easier to be expressive using anything else but your lungs.
On the other hand, if you drink (and drive) then you’ve probably got some pretty good breath-o-lyzer chops.
This breath controller looks genial. Thanks for the great demo, I just put in an order, hope to get it soon.
Very nice! Here is another one

Will this breath controller work with my Korg Kronos?
Wow. Thanks for demonstrating the breath controller. Great video, I love it.
Is the keyboard player using this at 4min:10sec in the video? Or something else?
