Korg Electribe Demo At BPM 2014

This video, via sonicstate, offers a preview of the new Korg Electribe, from BPM 2014.

The Electribe Music Production Station is a next-generation, Ableton Live-friendly 16-track polyphonic synth groovebox. Or as James at Korg says, ‘it’s the ultimate entry level to everything Korg’. 

The new Electribe features sixteen back-lit Trigger pads, an intuitive X/Y Touch pad, and is now more mobile than ever, because it can run on battery power (optional AC adapter available).

  5. firstly, this told me everything i already knew. next, i wanna hear it and see it in action with not-horrible audio. and last of all- of course theyre not gonna demo the sampler yet, itll make this thing look useless in comparison

  7. That dude looked like he was on something. Can’t decide between L or DXM or what but he seriously seems like he’s trying to avoid the lava on the floor and wants to ask the patterns on Nick’s shirt to stop moving

      1. Look I’m not saying he was an idiot or anything. But, I’ve been to conventions and seen demo’s of products where the demonstrator knew very little about the instrument. This is not that. He clearly knows the instrument. He’s just having trouble explaining what he knows. And he does a much better job of going through his prepared foot notes in the video posted below.

        I’ve been around enough dosed people to spot the signs. And this guy is showing them all over this vid. Nick tries to help him along, but he just gets lost inside his own head a bit much.

        At any rate, I could be wrong. I just thought it was funny. He seems like a good dude, and the people who know of him seem to think he’s a beast on electribes. I bet he’s done much better demos than this and I bet he’ll do better ones in the future.

      1. Yes the demo on this video is much more better, also trade shows are very exhausting, doing demos all day long with the noise heat etc,…It can happen that at the end of the day you do a bad demo.
        The machine looks very good to me in that price range. Love the new korg direction. I hope that someday they’ll mix this one with the volca series oscillator & engine, it will be a beast.

  10. The reality is probably that it’s got a beta OS and the guy didn’t get to see it until the day of the show.

    At least he’s not saying it’s a ‘game changer’….

  13. This guy didn’t have any clue about the machine! He triggered randomnly some knobs, mentioned DMX possibility (really useless comment) and played internal demo trying to show that he was him doing this crappy EDM style. Sorry Korg, next time choose a better and well prepared presenter. Useless demo, and knowing the average interviews of Nick, I’m sure he think the same.

  14. hey that’s mistabishi! he uses electribes a lot in his productions. korg must have employed him cos he bangs on about them alot. he knows them pretty well from other videos I’ve seen.

    2. Haters? Nope!

      I am not going to revise the other posters comments here, but imho they are mostly valid. If you are hired to demo a product, then you better be prepared to demo it. If you aren’t prepared, or maybe aren’t that much into talking to people, because you are a producer, then you may pick up a negative comment or two. Theres also the fact that he’s likely being paid, but thats an issue for he and his supervisors. I personally am interested in the device, but this vid told me very little and I found myself feeling uncomfortable watching. Just sayin’.

  16. It’s tradition that the very first synth product demo video that comes out has to be awkward, they do this on purpose, no one likes to break tradition…

  17. sad to see we are going backwards from a max of 8 bard on the ESX generation to just four….8 allows for much more variation in programming

    1. But he’s not wrong. You can’t expect this or any instrument to play a full set while you do nothing other than wave your hands around. It still requires composing talent.

      Some people can’t take confrontational – and honest – statements!

      I agree that MB seemed tragically nervous in these demos though.

  19. Am I the only one who caught “First new lectribe in 15 years” IIRC, the FIRST Electribe was released 15 years ago, and I think there might have been an update or two.

    Also… when’s the sampler actually going to be demoed? All I care about is a replacement for my ES-1, but I don’t want yet another iPad app.

  21. Wow, there are some grumpy-a** people on Synthopia today. ALL of these “demos” shot at NAMM-type conventions are consistently awful!

  22. I understand both the hype & anger surrounding the new ‘tribes. As an owner of an EMX, I would like to know the differences that might speed up workflow w/o a computer. IE: how does the lcd work with the step sequencer, synth editing, etc. The electribes sell themselves, but will the new versions succeed on where the others failed?

  25. If you just listen to the audio it’s pretty informative, but that look on his face is one of extreme nervousness, or at least tired distraction. The floors of those shows can be pretty obnoxious, maybe his nerves are just fried from being there all day.

  27. I didn’t know who this guy was when watching the video… but I got what he was saying, and that he felt it was a good instrument/machine for many reasons. But most importantly he gave me confidence in the thing he was demonstrating. That, more than anything, resonated.

    Now that I’ve since discovered he’s a music maker in his own right, not an employee or demo muppet, I’m even more intrigued by his thoughts and passion for the product. And utterly convinced it’s worth buying.

    If you want a professional demo, watch a muppet. For the rest of us that believe in the assessment of pros… this guy’s epic!
