Sunday Synth Jam: Quintronics’ Weather for the Blind is a live streaming site of a musical instrument which is ‘played’ by the weather. The project combines ambient music, sonification and analog synthesis.
The base station, pictured in the foreground above, is called Weather Warlock and is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The weather sensors, pictured in the distant surf, are mounted to a post and detect temperature, wind, sun, and rain.
The analog synthesizer produces a wide range of tones and harmonics, based around an E major chord, with special audio events occurring during sunrise and sunset.
The project streams audio from this musical weather station via the WeatherForTheBlind site.
The Weather Warlock site says, “This all analog synthesizer produces a wide range of tones and harmonics based around a consonant E major chord with special audio events occurring during sunrise and sunset.” I listened before, during and after sunrise (CST). Very nice to hear subtle and slow variations on a theme build as the light increased and the sun broke the horizon.. Worth a visit.
