Sunday Synth Jam: This video captures a performance by Vangelis of his infamous theme from Chariots of Fire.
In the Panathenean Stadium, Athens – a 90,000 spectator, ancient all-marble stadium, Vangelis performs as part of the Opening Ceremony of the 6th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 1997 in Athens. The concept of the ceremony and direction was by Vangelis Papathanasiou.

Why is it described as his infamous theme from Chariots of Fire? What did I miss?
I suspect the author doesn’t realize the true meaning of infamy.
Infamy infamy they’ve all got it infamy.
/Start the car, I’ll get my coat…
No no, carry on.
Or it’s just figurative languange, meant to be a half-joke…
It was heavily over played and over shadowed any other work Vangelis was to do.
Legend.
It’s interesting, while obviously the hero instrument of this piece is the piano, I wonder if this fact is what made this piece cross over so well at the time – the rest of the synth stuff is treated like a backing track.
I was completely obsessed with this song for a long time. It still stands up.
