Primal Audio let us know that they’ve updated FM4, their four-operator FM synthesizer for iPad.
They also introduced a free version, FM4 Lite, that lets you try the app out, but has a few of the more advanced features, like MIDI and Audiobus, disabled. .
Here’s what’s new in FM 4 1.1:
- Audiobus support
- A new tempo section with manual control of the tempo
- Waveform popover with an overview of waveforms
- UI performance boost: the app now feels more responsive
- Reduced file size of the app to less than 50%
- Fix for crash on iOS 7.0.x
- Minor bug fixes
The FM4 Lite is fully functional except for the following limitations:
- MIDI is disabled
- Inter-app Audio is disabled
- Audiobus is disabled
- Saving is disabled
- Only 40 factory presets are included
FM4 is available for UR $9.99 in the App Store. An online manual for FM 4 is also now available.
If you’ve used FM4, let us know what you think of it!
Great app – they are considering adding a step sequencer. I got it for $.99. 🙂
lucky us
I like that. Le Synth Gods graciously give us MIDI and these idiots hold it hostage for 9 dollars.
Holding it hostage? Why should you get a fully featured synth of this quality for free? How are the devs supposed to feed themselves/their families and continue to develop software if they give you a fully featured synth for free? I’m sure they put plenty of man hours into this and made a lot of sacrifices to get something of this quality made.
$9.99 is incredibly CHEAP for this synth (which is awesome). Download the free demo. If you like how it sounds and you think you’d like to use it, then purchase it. If not, don’t.
This freetard culture is beyond ridiculous and you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
If you’re into FM on iOS then this is well worth $9.99. Run this through some effects in AB or IAA and it’s pretty awesome.
I have no connection with Primal Audio other than giving them feedback on the initial version of FM4.
One thing I miss is support for sustain (CC #64). There isn’t much space left in the interface but there should be a button next to each envelope to toggle whether it freezes at its current level when sustain is pressed or not.
