Auxy, an iPad groovebox app, just got a lot more interesting, with an update that adds MIDI out sequencing capabilities and more.
In the video demo, above, composer Jon Ekstrand users the new MIDI feature in Auxy to sequence his Tempest drum machine, Moog Voyager, Eurorack modular system, and Virus Indigo.
Auxy is a free app, but version 1.2.1 adds these features as in-app purchases:
- Send MIDI to other apps and hardware devices
- Export your projects as MIDI files
- Set the velocity for individual notes
- Change grid setting to draw triplets and 1/32 notes
Here’s the official intro video, which shows the capabilities of the free version of the app:
Auxy is a free download from the App Store; the new features are in-app purchases.
If you’ve used Auxy, leave a comment and share your thoughts on it!
I have NO problem paying for apps. ESP if they had more than 10 sounds.
2.99 for the ability to edit your sounds better- fine.
7.99 for midi- PULEEZ. The app is not that fab. Give me more sounds, effects, midi, and wait- more sounds and you have a paying customer.
I don’t need Abelton export for an app that only has so many sounds that cannot be manipulated that well.
I like the basic app but it needs FAR more sounds before they want 10 bucks (or at least MoRE tweaks and IAA and Audiobus).
I dunno man, I’m not interested in the onboard sounds at all but a quality MIDI sequencer is easily worth eight bucks to me.
Um, I paid $1200 for my dedicated hardware sequencer/ sampler, guess what? It came with no internal sounds. You want to be a musician but are going to cry over $8? Kids these days- spoiled little b1tches.
Amen.
b-step was on sale for $7.99 last month. That is a quality midi sequencer.
So yeah, what that guy said. I specifically bought my iPad Air 2 for mobile music work, and having something else that works with MIDI files natively that I can use in MASCHINE and Ableton later is completely worth it. I just don’t understand the cheapness of a lot people these days. I’m not huge on IAP, but I do like the way iOS will at least give names and prices to what they are so you can get an idea up front. And sharing purchases with the family makes a lot of these a no-brainer so I can work with my daughter.
Mate, if you want more sounds, get a synth app! (which you can sequence from it btw.)
I see it more as good sketchbook for on the go and later import the midi files in your DAW.
On the other side, if you have hardware and want to get a bit more knobby with it you still have a nice clean sequencer..
Hi, we’re working on rebuilding the whole sound engine and will definitely add more and better internal sounds in an upcoming update. For example, I think the ability to have a good internal drum machine and run it with a nice analog bass synth is a really nice setup. We’ll also improve the MIDI features with e.g. global MIDI sync so that you can sync external LFOs etc. to the MIDI clock and make sure everything runs in the same tempo.
How about the Yamaha apps which are free, the sequencer was free but price back up
Plus there are several other freebies on the App Store
One nice to say though about army is you get to try core function to see if you like, I have got other apps that turn out not as good as advertised
Waiting for Song Mode
After many years of electronic music i’ve learned two simple truth:
1)in a live set, 1 groovebox is better then 5 0 6 indipendent engine ( synh drum- machine) (because you load quikly a set up , because there are less cables)
2) in the studio the situation is opposite
So, if we want to stay togheter and if we want to enjoy music live contest, we need a new super groovebox (smal and very power in term of midi channel trak (32), and syntetis capabilities (analog, fm, sample, mono and poly ) .
For a real nice simple free sequencer, little midi machine is awesome.
I have to say, from a UX and workflow point of view, Auxy has pretty much nailed it down now they’ve got MIDI , for me at least. And the new features are definitely attractive, so, well done to the devs and designers there. But, I’ve run in to broken MIDI on iOS so many times so far, the price tag does make me think twice, because I’m a little touchy on that point- once bitten, twice shy and all that (no negs to Auxy.co). Going to keep a eye out for feedback and reviews, but right now, (barely) resisting FOMO and going to wait a while to see how it pans out…
And here I just bought Ableton several days ago! Probably no reason to get Auxy now? (looking for a good one!)
Ableton is awesome but if you want to be able to program patterns/loops quickly then the touch interface is really killer.
This man loves out of phase 😀
That set up is f%#@ing awesome! And for once, it’s not owned by some wanker who doesn’t know how to use it. Bravo to the artist in this demo, that was some nice work.
