Korg has updated Gadget, its virtual studio for iPad, with a new M1-inspired synth, Darwin.

The update also adds a MIDI file export option.

Here’s what’s new in Gadget 1.2.1:

  • A brand new digital PCM synthesizer gadget “Darwin” powered by KORG iM1. If you have the iM1 app, you’ll be able to use more than 1,800 sound programs* of M1 (for users with all the Expansion ROM Cards installed).
  • MIDI file export: You can transfer your ideas into your DAW via iTunes File Sharing or Dropbox.
  • New functions in the sequencer view: You can now directly copy notes and expand bars without opening the function window.
  • Fixed a startup problem on iOS 7.
  • Other various enhancements have been made to improve usability and stability.

Korg Gadget is available for $29.99 in the App Store.

If you’ve used Gadget, leave a comment and let us know what you think of it!

  1. It’s a cool feature, however some people are suffering from a pretty annoying bug: the Darwin gadget doesn’t show all of the cards from the iM1 in-app purchases. Korg are apparently working on this, and it impacts some people but not others, but it is annoying.

    Otherwise, excellent update.

    1. Yup…. that’s the bug I seem to have caught with my version of Gadget. Some, but not all the iM1 cards are showing. Patiently waiting for a fix.

Korg Integrating their other iOS apps into Gadget would be a ++bonus as well.

      Cheers!

    1. I totally agree, ims20 or ipolysix would be dope in gadget
      so would ielectribe
it would get me to buy some of korg’s other apps, that’s for sure
even the volcas would be pretty sweet in gadget

or volca versions of gadgets like a volca kiev or volca chianmai

  2. I would pay a decent amount of money for a software version of the gadgets so that midi import could be directly translated to a DAW, especially if it would autoload with metadata within ableton/bitwig or logic maybe

    would be awesome

  3. as much as i liked the gadget as an all in one ipad studio at the end of the day i found myself turning it on less and less.
two problems i had with it:
    – the sound is plasticky
    – i could not play in my notes the way i wanted them. there was always some latency involved.

still – great app, having the ims20 and ip6 would be dope. reminds me to try it on my latest ipad.

  4. Gadget is a must have app, with the power of a hand held Reason. Excellent in every way, a must have app. I cant wait for the rumoured Ipad pro to arrive, i think a larger screen size and more power will make profesional mobile music making a breeze.
