This video, via mylarmelodies, is an overview and audio demo of the SH-101-inspired Intellijel Atlantis “complete synth voice” module.
The Atlantis is a fully patchable dual oscillator analog subtractive synth voice in Eurorack format.
The Atlantis is heavily inspired by the architecture and sound of the classic Roland SH-101. However, the Atlantis uses triangle core VCOs (based on the Dixie core) instead of Saw core, which respond much more musically to FM. The modulation oscillator can be used as an LFO or VCO (audio rate) and both track very precisely over 8 or more octaves.
See this post from earlier in the year for an Intellijel Atlantis synthesizer review.
And – if you’ve used the Atlantis – leave a comment and let us know what you think of it!
I’ve got an Atlantis and I could not say enough good things about the module. More than anything, though, it’s the slider interface and the immediacy that it brings to the module that I absolutely adore.
Now that’s a demo! What fun.
Yummy. Loved this.
That review was awesome! Thanks for sharing. I love finding new quality synth channels.
This thing looks absolutely sick! One day I will join this Eurorack craze, I just like having money and eating etc. too much, but the Atlantis looks like an awesome place to start!! That filter and envelopes are glorious
Kind of a departure from the entire modular paradigm, is it not? Ignoring the exact form factor, why not, then, drop a Novation KS rack or Roland MKS-80 into a rack and call it a modular? Of course this would be quicker and more responsive than the rest of the modular set up; by its nature all of its settings are restrained internally to what works with everything else inside of itself. There are certain pathways for sound signal that are already predetermined by the designer and imposed on the user. That is the opposite of modular. Atlantis is a synthesizer module in the same sense as any E-Mu or Yamaha or Korg 19″ U module. Regardless of the beauty of its sound potential, it is a bit of a cheat to claim it represents modular synthesis. If it is made up of further discreet components but cannot be broken down, any more than any keyboard could, then it is not modular.
First of all, Atlantis is far more patchable than any of the other synth modules you mentioned. You can insert modulators and signal processors from other modules right into the Atlantis’s own signal path.
Secondly, even if it was as closed as you say, who cares? Stick whatever you like in your Eurorack system. At the end of the day, isn’t it about the music you make?
Then again, if we really want to get modular, maybe we should throw away the Euroracks and start making patches on breadboards.
Well played sir. You either have very little understanding of modular synths but have to give us your opinion anyways or you are trolling pretty hard. Bonus points for throwing in the phrase “modular paradigm” which really has no meaning. I feel a kind of sadness when people like you try to throw a wrench into a perfectly excellent work. Sad life is sad.
May I draw your attention to the rows of jacks at the top and side of the module…
In a way you COULD say it is against the modular paradigm in that you cannot replace the individual components with ones you find more useful. For that reason, I wouldn’t buy it. However, I don’t think there is anything wrong with anyone choosing to add that to their system. To each their own. It’s a good product, they offer good support and its a pretty entry point for someone who doesn’t want to do a lot of research (some would rather be playing) or someone who likes the combination it offers.
This is one of the best demos I’ve seen in a long time. I like the part near the end where he achieves really cool articulations by playing with the looping ADSR.
This demo is THE SH&*T people, this is the real deal, and I personally know that its helped sell a few atlantis modules out there, Intellijel should be very proud of this module and thank Mylarmelodies for putting together such a masterpiece. @ 14:14 that SOUND magic !!!
the whole demo reminds me of the first time I heard Squarepusher
I had managed to convince myself that I didn’t need this module, now I’m having to plan around getting an extra rack on top of the 12U I have already.
GREAT review, fantastic gear. After watching this I was curious about the Metropolis, and found the same guy reviewing that as well. I WANT ONE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV9-XA5MPwY
i hope intellijel makes another synth voice module like this one but with a hat tipped to moog. intellijel does great work
Gonna keep it strait forward I kno absolutely nothing about
This whole modular/euro playing field I did have one of two this was designed after the mc202 I had didn’t have a midi mod which I don’t consider a mod but more an adapter link but it did have actual circuit bent hacked mods
Between circuits which was 10% beyond an orginal but way short of what this module offers I let my 202 go and was able to pick up novation line up bass-super bass-and a-stations which surpass what I wAs able to achive from the 202 and after fiddling with endless parameters out of these pieces still came short when it comes down between “pot”
Sliders vs knobs -sliders hands down and at times more end up being less an Is way the whole euro/frac intrigues
Me and now after creating sound from ground up I have no second thoughts of sacrificing my modded 202 for upgrade in setup I got from the funds but after witnessing this creation give respect to the master minds behind it this module offers a sh101/mc202 playing field with out dealing with a 30 yr + piece of hard ware with access to hack into any an every part of the synths circuit my 202 was sic this updated release iz jus ill make me miss my 202 but wouldn’t pick up another b4 this creation
I c nothing wrong in having a piece of modular that incorporates all the modules needed in one piece with out spaghetti over controls this masterpiece izzz what my modded 202 couldn’t this thing has more patch points then
Controls where my modded 202 came short and whoever wants to try n hate on this piece surely can’t aquire one
Let alone phAthom the circuit diagram of the pot that controls the vol so they’d be better off turning down the volume of their opinion ok ya it might not be modular in the tru sense but all the patch points puts this in the class of bein a full euro system in one module I don’t miss my 202
But technology lost when Atlantis sunk has resurfaced in the creation of this masterpiece not even my cup of tea I’d prefer jack n coke and with no plans of picking one up will definitely looking out for one in future price tag is mildly heavy but considering all circuits with patch points a definite goldmine. Hands up to the creators and to any haters go pick up. Casio to circuit bend and be orginal
Keepin it reel N to all the fakers we c thru u
