Here’s another preview for Jean-Michel Jarre‘s upcoming collaboration album, due out October 16,
Stardust – a collaboration with Armin Van Buuren – is the sixth piece of music to be announced from the Frenchman’s forthcoming project. Taking his place alongside M83, Tangerine Dream, Gesaffelstein, 3D (Massive Attack) and Vince Clarke, Armin van Buuren is the first artist announced from pure trance roots, something that Jarre himself insisted upon.
“Trance music is one of the biggest movements and draws in electronic music,” notes Jarre. “Armin van Buuren has always stayed faithful to that style and he’s one of the most respected figures of that genre. Trance music had to be included in this journey for me.”
The upcoming album, “E-Project” (working title), was conceived with Jarre’s wish to encompass the last few decades of electronic music with the participation of outstanding artists of all generations, with whom Jarre feels especially connected with, ‘by a common DNA’. The album features 16 different collaborators.
¿¡¿WHAT THE FUCK?!?
EProject : JMJs upcoming album
JMJ is representing Major Electronic Music Trends of last 50 years.
Collaborating with 16 musicians of those trends.
Musicians who either :
like, admire, respect, are a fan of JMJ.
Three years in the making, fitting himself around the different musicians time frames, visiting every artist personally.
Therefore each collaboration track is meant to sound of that era.
Pete Townsend = 1965-1970
Edgar + JMJ = 1975-1980
John Carpenter = 1976-1981
Gary Numan =1978-1983
Boris Blank = 1980-1985
Vince Clarke + JMJ = 1982 – 1987
Massive Attack + JMJ = 1990-1995
Armin Van Buren + JMJ = 1995-2005
Moby = 2000-2005
M83 = 2009-2014
Gessafelstein +JMJ = 2015
There maybe POSSIBLY with
Chemical Brothers or Underworld or Prodigy to represent Big Beat = 1995-2000
Daft Punk = 2010-2015
Moroder or Kraftwek = 1975-1980
Oh Jean-Michel, whenever will you learn..
this would have been great 15 years ago…
Wash your mouths!
JMJ’s best buddy is reading all these comments. Soon he will be pointing out our tremendous lack of taste to understand JMJ geniality.
Meanwhile I’ll put Oxygen to spin on the turntable.
This strikes me as the best of his collaborations yet, with the TD one coming in a close second.
You can definitely hear the Jarre DNA, with the sound and texture choices, without it getting overpowered by van Buuren’s trance elements.
To the people stuck on Oxygene – would you really want him putting out Oxygene 3, these days? Kudos to him for trying something new.
Yes, Oxygene 14-20 would be my dream album from JMJ before it’s too late for him to do anything more. Oxygene 7-13 was as good as one who loved the original would want it to be.
sounds childish and dated in a bad way
To all haters/commenters on Synthtopia:
Please provide youtube links to music that is closer to what you think (artist X) should have created vs. what he actually did create, and explain precisely why.
Why can’t people just express their feelings freely without having to justify it?
Nobody is interested in reading anonymous whining and complaints. Does anybody really care that a closet wannabe nobody doesn’t like Jarre or trance or whatever?
If you can’t make your comment somehow contribute constructively to the discussion, you’re just creating noise.
And if you want more Oxygen from him, you’re stuck in 1975. He’s moved on and that’s a good thing.
I don’t want anything from either of them….ever.
I don’t even know why I clicked this link, I must have thought it was emo, taxicab fist porn.
Jarre was a huge influence on Armin getting into synths and you can hear that cinematic element in alot oh his music. that makes this a very awesome collaboration.
Yeah, it’s cheesy, but you know what? It’s pretty good synth cheese, the production is good, the sound is there. Look on the bright side: at least it’s not dubstep! 😉
Every album Jarre has ever done is a little cheesy (Oxygene VI, anyone?).
That’s not always a bad thing.
I love this piece. A excellent polished piece . As stated above, You can hear the influences of both Jarrre and Van Buuren. They both bring equally to this piece. For me, some of JMJ pieces can be a little too laid back and AVB pieces can be too aggressive . This piece is a nice blend, one not overpowering the other. I really like it a lot. Will be buying this album when it comes out. I see this doing well on the charts.
Roni Size (fan of JMJ) to represent Drum n Bass = 1995 – 2000
would been neat but I don’t think it’s on the album.
Maybe JMJ doesn’t know Roni Size is his fan.
Chicane is a massive fan of JMJ :
Chicane’s album Thousand Mile Stare 2011 cover near exact copy of JMJ’s Magnetic Fields 1981 album cover.
Chicane would been neat yet I suppose Armin is more known, as well as big fan of JMJ as Chicane.
EProject are musicians who either :
like, admire, respect, are a fan of JMJ
Would been neat JMJ collaborating with Lee Scratch Perry.
JMJ collaborated with Amoco Renegades steel drum band 1990, therefore collaborating with the GodFather of Dub would been pretty smooth.
As well as with Frankie Knuckles before he passed away early 2014.
These two collaborations would have taken in two massive Trends in Electronic Music
JMJ E Project three years in the making, fitting himself around the different musicians time frames, visiting every one of them personally.
What about JMJ+JMJ = 1977-1981 ?
Collaboration with 3D (Massive Attack) was excellent, but Armin … hmh.
not my cup of tea!!!
