Developer Jakob Penca has introduced SDS Drop for OS X – a utility that’s designed to make sample transfers to your Elektron Analog Rytm drum machine ‘a breeze’.
To use, you drag & drop your files onto the drum pads, and the app takes care of the rest. Samples are loaded into the current Rytm project and assigned to your current Kit, ready to play.
Here’s a short video demo by the developer:
Core-Audio compatible media files are converted to 48kHz 16bit PCM audio, the native format for the Rytm. The high-quality conversion is handled by the Core-Audio framework.
You can even use video files – SDS Drop will extract the audio.
Any other kinds of file are interpreted as 22kHz 8bit PCM audio.
SDS Drop is available for US $9.99 in the App Store.
If you’ve used SDS Drop, leave a comment and share your thoughts on it!

its only for mac, no IOS
This is great and all but why hast Elektron made something like this for free?
unfortunately, elektron doesn’t seem to spend a whole lot of time on software, with the exception of overbridge. could be a matter of specialization in hardware and firmware or just avoiding the cost of maintaining many utility programs. hopefully their time spent building overbridge has put them in a state of mind where they’re willing to build and maintain such utilities though.
Works great! I am not a fan of Elektron’s C6 transfer utility (or the sample management for that matter) and SDS is a very welcome surprise.
Thanks for covering this and getting the word out to Rytm users. It certainly fills a big gap for the time being, and speeds up sample transfer vs C6. The dev has batch import coming, and other fun things in the pipeline.
So much better than C6. Can’t wait for batch, can’t come fast enough.
Batch coming in the very next update!
Does the sample get stored in the main menu as well or just in the individual patch? If it gets stored in the main menu, where does it get stored? This looks really cool, thanks!
I just bought it. But in the left corner it states: “Analog Rytm not concected” But the AR is connected and works. Anybody with the same problem? (Running OSX 10.10.5 and Ableton 9.6)
…are you using your Rytm in the Overbridge mode? If yes: you have to switch to USB mode, and start your Rytm before you start the software. 🙂
Is there anything like this for PC users???
