This video, via synthesist Alba Ecstasy, is a hands-on demo of the Mutable Instruments Braids Eurorack ‘macro oscillator module.
The Braids module is described as ‘a voltage-controlled monophonic digital sound source’. According to the developer, ‘Most of the timbres it generates are so complex that approaching them with a classic analog modular setup would require a full case of oscillators, filters, VCAs, waveshapers and ring-modulators ‘
Each algorithm is controlled by two continuously variable parameters,Timbre and Color. Both are voltage controllable. The parameters can simultaneously affect several dimensions of timbre, creating very complex movements which would be hard to generate with a traditional setup.
Here’s what Alba Ecstasy has to say about the video demo:
In this video I just passed through almost all waveforms (video is ending at Noise – my camera stopped so I had to cut the audio) and added Warps as the 2nd sequenced oscillator and OP-1 kick for more flavor. Clouds comes with the reverb.
Beatstep Pro is sequencing also Braids and Warps. I’ll be back next days with a better camera angle and a more elaborate integration, of my dearest Braids, in my Eurorack. Ripples is in action too and A-148 S&H + A-118 Noise -Random Control, brings flowers to the mix!
PS: please try to ignore the glitches from beginning, it’s such a mess these days with my cables…
The Braids module has a street price of about US $400. See the Mutable Instruments site for details.
Could this module be a companion for my A4?
