Sunday Synth Jam: This video captures a live version of Gary Numan‘s Cars by I Speak Machine (Tara Busch and Maf Lewis).
Recorded live October 1, 2015 at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, where I Speak Machine performed, supporting Gary Numan.
Technical Details:
Using a Moog Voyager, Moogerfooger Analog Delay, Clusterflux & Ring mod, EHX V256 vocoder and APC 40 to trigger samples in Ableton 9. Sound from the iphone, not a sound board recording.
Has an edge like Laurie Anderson.
And wow… What a voice !
this is good. very original and powerful version.
really needs some balls to cover the most iconic song of an artist when opening for him.
Very cool cover, sci fi and a bit subversive.
Made me think of Goodfrapp’s first album, which is a classic.
back in my day when you were supporting a big artist and you are on stage first and you sing the main artist’s biggest track yourself just ahead of them coming on…you were not going to be supporting that artist for much longer….
Sounds like you never were invited to open for Gary Numan, then.
It’s easy to see why Busch got the opportunity.
I was at the show. It’s not exactly correct to call it a “cover”, it was her own take on the song with a very different arrangement. She was touring with him so I’m sure he knew she was doing the song, and liked it enough to allow her to do it. Also, that night Numan was doing the “Replicas” album start to finish, so we were not sure is he would even do Cars (which he did toward the end of his set).
“Her own take on the song with very a different arrangement”.
You just described a cover version.
Gary Numan shared this on Facebook and Twitter 😉
sorry did not recognized the song
Thanks for featuring female performers, it’s really inspiring each week to see these acts. I watch them all.
