Sound design superfreak Diego Stocco – who’s previously shown how to use a squirrel as a reverb, make music from breakfast cereal and how to sample a burning piano – has introduced Color Bots – a set of playable sound design tools for Ableton Live 9.5 or greater.
Color Bots generates new tonal elements by “coloring” the rhythmic and dynamic profile of a loop. The resulting sound can be manipulated through the Macro Controls and played tonally from a keyboard
“For Color Bots, I developed a new technique called Adaptive Tonal Processing,” explains Stocco, “that is based on a combination of cross-synthesis and harmonically complex musical phrases.”
Color Bots is a Live session specifically designed for Ableton Live Standard Edition 9.5 or later; no Max4Live or 3rd party plugins are necessary to run Color Bots. It’s available now for US $34.99.
If you’ve used Color Bots, leave a comment and let us know what you think of it!
Diego is a genius. I’m going to have to give this a try.
