AudioThing has introduced SR-88 – a sample-based plugin emulation of the Sound Master Memory Rhythm SR-88, a rare analog drum machine from the 80s.
The instrument features 5 classic analog sounds: Kick, Snare, Hi Hat 1, Hi Hat 2, and Cymbal, which can be pitched, panned or mixed independently.

Hmmm… just because something is rare doesn’t mean we need it. Sounds are pretty lame IMO. Plus it’s not really doing anything you couldn’t do with your existing sampling setup as far as I can tell.
Agree with OP. I used to own one of these and it was terrible. The only reason people purchased an SR-88 was because they couldn’t afford the funky little Boss DR-55. The SR-88 was far from funky. In fact it had no funk at all.
Ha! Listening to the audio demo, this plugin sounds NOTHING like an original SR-88. But it does sound better, so maybe it is worth the asking price after all. I’d buy this plugin, but certainly not another SR-88!
Multiple instances automated could lead to some rather special audio methinks. It’d be fantastic if the Effects section was automate-able as well (does anyone happen to know if it is?)
Perhaps one has to be certifiably Drum Obsessed to sit up straight upon announcements like the SR-88 AU ..if so count me in.
