Reactable has released the ROTOR Controllers – a set of tangible hardware knobs, designed for use with the ROTOR app, running on 9.7 and 7.9 inches iPads.
Each controller behaves as a moveable knob that can be placed on top of any virtual sound module, letting you combine customizable software synth patching with an element of tangible hardware control.
Here’s a video intro:
Pricing and Availability
The ROTOR Controllers Set is available now for 39.90 €.
is this a tangible story?
sorry, just too tempting
Finally a demo with some music I would actually listen to
I received a set of these for Christmas, and while I haven’t had a chance to try out the new Rotor synth itself (I didn’t travel with my iPad), I was able to try it on loopy on an iphone 6s. The knobs work using conductive ink, so in theory these could be used by any program with the right sized knobs using a turning motion. I’ll be interesting to see if anyone else makes use of them.
wonder if they would work for “tune in Tokyo”
Having watched the hilarious review by Tim Webb (Discchord) review on YouTube I think I’ll pass:

Best to play to a devices strengths that try to make it something it isn’t and end up with expensive pieces of plastic and an under-performing app (I bought the original Reactable and I’m not believing the hype so easily again).
this is what is commonly known as a “gimmick”
