Gorillaz guitarist Noodle shared this mixtape, featuring the sounds and words of an all-female lineup – including Grimes, Laurie Anderson, Delia Derbyshire and others:
“In search of new sounds and new inspiration, I found these kick-ass women who in their own individual ways are true pioneers in the writing, production and creation of MUSIC.
They have inspired me, and I hope they inspire you too.”

Speaking of Delia Derbyshire: Sampling a dead person’s voice hardly makes her part of the lineup …
Putting her song at the end of the mixtape does
But what a great line up of artists on the mixtape!
I must admit that this mix hurts me a lot. Mixing traditional polyphonic chants with modern music is quite wrong. Well it is not wrong by principle, one can do it. But not that way. This example is just horrible.
Also, to mention the name of Laurie Anderson seems very wrong to me. I stopped listening after the intro, maybe there were some more abuses.
At least, the producer got a glimpse of real music, be it ancient/traditional/folk or avantgarde. That’s a positive thing. He may learn more in the process. I hope. There’s much to learn. There is much to learn.
surely it should be ‘guitarist’ in quotations ..
I enjoyed the mix, but I find the presentation a little weird.
Has Damon Albarn handed over control of the “Noodle” character that he created for the Gorillaz to someone else?
Assuming he hasn’t, we have a middle-aged white guy masquerading as a cartoon Japanese girl in order to heap praise on female artists. Why not just present this same statement and mix as himself? This is not a rhetorical question. He may have great reasons.
How do you know it isn’t Miho Hatori?
