Synthesist Thomas P. Heckmann shares his thoughts on the classic PPG Wave 2 wavetable synthesizer.
Video Summary:
With one of his favorite synths at hand, Thomas P. Heckmann is ready for the last episode of his Devil’s Kitchen series on Telekom Electronic Beats TV.
The PPG Wave 2 is a digital/analog hybrid that capitalizes on wavetable synthesis, but really comes to life thanks to its beefy filters.
Being so versatile it was used famously by a variety of artists including Depeche Mode, Tangerine Dream, David Bowie and many more.
Waldorf Blofelds have some of this heritage built in, awesome synths. Bit cheaper than one of these beasts
Also Waldorf’s Largo VST is the same thing as Blofeld.
Ultravox was one the early users of the PPG, and they used it to great effect.
Terrible demo. It’s almost as if this guy doesn’t really know how to use this classic instrument. Or even just play. Such a shame.
The real early adopters of the PPG were of course Tangerine Dream. If you want to hear a fantastic ‘demo’ of this synth, listen to ‘Remote Viewing’ off ‘Exit’!

Agreed! I was thinking the same thing about the “demo”. I was totally in love with the Waldorf PPG VST until it became obsolete on later Windows versions. I loved it so much that I bought the Blofeld hardware synth just to get my hands on some of those moving wavetable sounds again.
