Modal Electronics has announced upcoming support for Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression (MPE) with its 002 line of synths. This will allow any MPE-compatible instrument to perform polyphonic multidimensional modulation on the synth.
Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression is a new standard that allows for more expressive performances to be communicated using MIDI. With MPE, you have full continuous control over the pitch, timbre, volume, etc of each individual note when performing polyphonically.
Here’s a couple of examples of the KMI K-Board Pro 4 using MPE to control the Modal 002R:
Modal has also enabled USB-MIDI Host Mode on the USB host port fitted on all 002’s. This means that any class-compliant USB-MIDI device can plug straight into the 002 for a computer-free setup.
These features will be released in an update to all existing customers in the coming weeks. See the Modal Electronics site for more info.
In addition to the 002 announcements, Modal has announced that CraftApp – its patch editor for the CraftSynth – is now available for Android devices.
Oh wow, that’s interesting!
