This set of videos, Mark Harris, takes a look at the Tangible Waves AE Modular synthesizer.
The AE Modular is a budget modular system, based on a new standard. It does not follow Eurorack or other existing standard, but is, instead, designed to be cost-effective to manufacture.
Patching is done via patch-wires and small pin-sockets (not minijack-cables as in the Euro world). This cuts the cost drastically and also saves a lot of space on the panels. Module outputs are frequently dual or triple, which makes multiples unnecessary.
The developer has also embraced a lo-fi approach, so the circuits are simple and the front panels have stamped type, vs screen-printed.
Production of the AE Modular was funded via a Kickstarter project. You can find out more about AE Modular at the project site.
i like it. but i have to say, i have a NS1 and never use it much because it’s kind of cumbersome to patch using patch-wires. might as well straight-up breadboard at that point.
