Here’s a hands-on demo of the new LeafAudio Microphonic Soundbox, an electroacoustic instrument that they say is “Supercool for creating otherworldly sounds and ambiences, great for processing with hard- and software.”
“The Microphonic Soundbox is an acoustic instrument which I created 20 years ago,” says creator Manuel Richter. “We made it public now to share it with you.”
The Soundbox features 2 internal contact microphones and 2 very low noise pre-amps (~100x Gain). Both signals are mixed together and sent to the mono out as a line level.
Inserting an external signal to the input will switch off the first internal mic, so it can also be used for amplifying and mixing external signals and working with modular gear.
Pricing and Availability
It’s available as a DIY kit for 149,00 € or prebuilt for 149,00 € via Exploding Shed.
I can’t wait until Behringer makes a cheaper version.
I honestly can’t tell what’s a troll anymore, especially with all the shitty viral marketing Uli’s been having his employees do lately.
Let’s just hope you can tell if someone is joking
Nice try Uli, but you can’t fool me!
Thank you Erik. I was making a joke about two things: 1) There was a time when, every other day, we were seeing news items about Behringer here. And there are still more coming. 2) Anytime there is a news item about Behringer, it provokes a lot of angry comments.
They don’t seem to have distribution in North America, will it be available anywhere outside their delivery areas?
Agreed! I hope it makes it over our way soon.
Really just seems like a boring, ill-designed version of the KOMA Field Kit for people who have never heard of contact mics. Probably faster and a lot cheaper to make one yourself out of any box, a piezo and some scrap parts…
They look like mini keys to me!
Actually, this looks like a lot of midi free fun. Any indication of the price?
I think the magic is in the wonderful effects processes here
Great thing for people who have no imagination… Saw similat things 30 years ago.
It sounds really cool, great demo!
Looks like a lot of fun. But needs massive effects to make it shine.
This is awesome. I don’t know if I would buy it, I’m kinda broke, but it makes me feel better knowing that stuff like this is out there.
I like it very much.
I won’t buy it though, because I’ll feel like I should build something similar instead (doesn’t seem so hard, right?). But then I won’t build it. Story of my life!
