Ahead of the 2018 NAMM Show, effects maker Strymon has introduced Magneto, an audio effects module for Eurorack modular synthesizers that they say is designed for ‘expansive soundscapes and evolving, otherworldly tones’.
Magneto is a stereo multi-head tape delay that also functions as a looper, phrase sampler, vintage spring reverb unit, phase-aligned clock multiplier, chaotic oscillator, zero latency sub-oscillator and more, with extensive CV I/O.
Here’s a playlist of videos about the Strymon Magneto:
Features:
- Tape-voiced delay machine with four playback heads and one record head
- Processor-intense dTape algorithm delivers meticulously nuanced recreations of vintage tape echo systems
- Three operational modes: Echo, Sound On Sound Looper, Phrase Sampler
- Varispeed algorithm with dynamic machine mechanics, 8:1 speed range
- Input record level for clean reproduction to warm, fat saturation
- Self-oscillating for tone generation
- Independent Spring Reverb
Pricing and Availability
The Strymon Magneto is available to pre-order now for US $599.
Note: Strymon originally introduced a tape delay Euro module in 2016, the Generalissimo, but did not release it.
Woah! That looks awesome. Not teasing definitely has an impact.
This just crushed everything else at NAMM. Sorry Roland, Korg and others.
Should have gone with a better name like Der Commissar or something…
Done. Straight to my wallet worth every dollar.
but in reality we just want big sky in eurorack format
My thoughts as well. I’ll even settle for only the more exotic voices.
Wow, thats a hell of alot of module, did not expect that level of depth.
So let me get this straight. You`ve got basically a Vst inside a “modular hardware” for 600$ and the modular lovers say thank you! 🙂 Well at least the debate Digital-Analog is no being mentioned anymore. Which is a good thing.
But you just sneakily started the vst or hardware debate, rather sly. Computers are hardware, they just don’t have sweet knobs. Strymon makes great products, to debate about its validity based on specs puts the the product up front and dwarfs its capabilities like super awesome sound potential. I always think the guy that says nothing is too busy making great music with every tool at his disposal. So obviously I’m not making anything but you see what I’m saying. Critics don’t make movies.
Pre-ordered ftw. I love my El Capistan, but it’s a pain to haul around…
Holy guacamole. That’s an awful lot of Strymon for 6 bones.
Is’nt he Heisenberg ???
Say my name…
